1,200 National Guards to secure the Mexico border
President Barack Obama to send 1,200 soldiers to the frontier with Mexico to support actions against illegal substance trafficking and immigrants, said sources from the congress.
The representative Gabrielle Giffords Arizona Democrat, said in a statement, moreover, that President Barack Obama will ask for $ 500 million to strengthen border security.
One measure taken in 2006 by former President George W. Bush allowed thousands of troops to support border authorities to tackle illegal immigration, but this initiative has already expired.
Authorities in the border states asked Washington to send troops to fight illegal substance trafficking and immigration.
Meanwhile, a Mexican Foreign Ministry report addresses the implementation with the United States a second stage of the so-called Merida Initiative, a plan that involves the delivery by Washington of equipment and training to deal with the cartels.
The Merida Initiative is a program agreed in 2007 by President Felipe Calderon and former President George W. Bush, which includes disbursements per thousand 400 million dollars over three years, which flow slowly for unspecified reasons.
Among the main conditions imposed by opposition sectors to immigration reform in the US is that the government secures the border with Mexico.
