le-mans-24-hoursThe 24 Hours of Le Mans endurance race started today, but unfortunately it proved to be a short one for veteran racer Nigel Mansell who crashed after less than 20 minutes.

The former Formula One legend suffered a serious crash, hitting the barriers twice. According to preliminary evidence, the crash was caused by a punctured wheel.

Mansell, aged 56 was immobilized in his car for a couple of minutes, until the ambulance arrived and took him urgently to a medical center.

Nigel Mansell was lucky, if we can say that, and suffered only a small bump on the head. The driver was able to leave the hospital shortly after the accident.

The crash caused troubles for the Audi team, who had to wait for the safety cars deployed after Mansell’s accident. At that time, the race was led by four Peugeout cars.
