Apple sells 600,000 iPhones, a new pre-order record
Apple already sold over 600,000 iPhones, despite the serious problems that hit both its own store and AT&T’s stores while taking pre-orders.
The huge success of the new iPhone 4 also represents a new record: the largest number of pre-orders the company has ever recorded in one day. In a story similar to the one recorded earlier by Sprint with its HTC EVO 4G, the huge success also caused a lot of trouble, as people were unable to get their hands on the the phone. The huge number of people accessing the site triggered a plenty of order and approval system malfunctions, according to Apple.
AT&T didn’t fare a lot better. The carrier’s security problems and the more than 13 million people that accessed their site to check out the new iPhone resulted in plenty of problems with the pre-orders, many of them being delayed or cancelled.
According to an AT&T press release, pre-order sales for the iPhone 4 were 10 times higher in the first day than the pre-orders for last year’s iPhone 3G S.

how many of those were “in error” orders.
I see AT&T are canceling many of those now… whether the orders were actually “in error” or not.
