Armed-Forces-Day-2010Armed Forces Day is celebrated annually on the Third Saturday of May and it pays tribute to men and women who serve the U.S Armed Forces. The Armed Forces Day is part of Armed Forces Week, an event which takes place annually on the second Saturday of May.

Armed Forces Day was created in 1949 and replaced the Army, Navy and Air Force Days.

What happens on Armed Forces Day? Most probably there will be parades, including in your small town, the most notable parade is the Armed Forces Day Parade in Bremerton, WA. Children will get a closer look on what does it mean to serve your country in different educational activities such as fairs or special school assignments.

Also, bikers will most likely appreciate “Support the Troops” themed motorcycle rides.

On this day we pay tribute to brave soldiers who put their life in danger for protecting and serving the United States of America, protecting your life and your family.

“Our service members carry on the proud traditions of duty and valor that have sustained us from our earliest days of independence. Today, we have the greatest military force in the history of the world because we have the finest personnel in the world. Wherever they are needed, from Iraq and Afghanistan to right here at home, they are serving and protecting our Nation.” said Barack Obama in the Presidential Proclamation.
