AT&T exposes 100.000 iPad owners emails
AT&T, Apple’s sole provider of wireless services in the United States accidentally exposed approximately 114.000 of its iPad using customers’ email addresses.
The unfortunate event happened when a security hole on AT&T’s web page was exploited by a team of security experts entitled Goatse Security. They used a script that returned the email address after the unique ID of each SIM card was entered. Many of AT&T’s famous customers, including Michael Bloomberg and Harvey Weinstein got their email addresses uncovered.
The company responded quickly to the unfortunate findings, closing the security hole and promising to notify their customers about the situation. After the apologies were over however, AT&T suffered a serious blow, having to face the anger of its customers not only for its network issues, but also for the poor security.
Some security analysts said however that the danger was not as big as the staff of Goatse Security claimed, and that exaggerating the impact of some findings is common in their branch.
