AT&T launches cheaper data plans for iPhones and iPads

AT&T has unveiled a new set of data plans for smartphones (iPhones) and tablets like the iPad, that are cheaper than the current ones, and also include tethering, a previously unavailable feature.

The new plans will be available starting June 7, according to the press release, and they cost $15 and $25 a month.

Here’s what they include:

DataPlus includes 200 megabytes of data and costs $15 per month. If the 200 MB are exceeded, $15 will buy you 200 more MB. This seems aimed at social networking and email fans. AT&T says that most of its users don’t exceed 200 MB a month.

DataPro is the name of the second plan, and it includes 10 times more data – 2 GB. The price of DataPro is $25 and it looks aimed at more professional users, that use the internet connection on their mobile phone a lot. If the 2 GB is exceeded, another 1 GB is given to the user, for an additional $10.

If you choose DataPro, tethering is also available for an additional $20 a month.

Existing users have the option to renew or keep their unlimited plans.
