AT&T’s mistake exposed iPad users’ passwords

at&t-mistake-ipadAT&T’s website security problems left thousands of iPad users’ email details exposed. The intrusion was planned by a group of security experts from Goatse Security, who exploited a weakness in AT&T’s web page to identify iPads that were connected to the company’s mobile network.

In a matter of hours, more than 114,000 email addresses of tens of thousands of iPad users were uncovered. Among the people whose addresses were accessed, there were military and politics officials, as well as major figures from the most important companies in the U.S. Fortunately, no financial or billing data was made public.

As a response to the intrusion, AT&T stated that it had repaired the security problem and that all customers whose emails were obtained will be notified immediately. Apologies were also made.

AT&T is the only U.S. provider of wireless service for Apple devices.
