“Avatar” sets DVD and Blu-ray sales record in North America
Four days after it’s release on DVD and Blu-ray, Avatar tends to become as a big hit in home entertainment as it was on theaters and at this moment the fastest selling movie in North America, shifting more than 6,7 million DVDs and Blu-rays from Thursday to Sunday.
Avatar sold 4 million DVDs and 2.7 million Blu-rays that brought Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment $130 million. This broke the record set in 2008 by “The Dark Knight“. The release was well chosen, Avatar hit the stores on 22nd of April, in the Earth Day, matching the celebration of the Earth to the “green” theme of the movie. In UK, Avatar will be on stores starting from Monday.
Avatar is a 3d fantasy sci-fi adventure movie created and directed by James Cameron, that soon after it’s debut on cinemas world wide, became the no. 1 film ever and made $2.7 billion from December till April, beating the record set by Titanic.
The most expensive film ever made, with a budget of at least $ 300 million, Avatar is about a soldier who infiltrates a tribe of aliens on a distant moon, falls in love with a local princess and then becomes a leader of a rebellion against the human invaders who are threatening to destroy the ecosystem of their world.
