Bangalore bomb blast: Explosion before Bangalore – Mumbai cricket match

The game between Bangalore and Mumbai is part of the cricket championship of the Indian Premier League.

Before the game was supposed to start, two low-intensity explosions have taken place today outside gate no. 12 of the M Chinnaswamy stadium in Bangalore.

Apparently, the explosive was placed in a bag.

According to reports, nine people, most of them policemen and members of the security personnel, were injured in the blast. This is quite a small number, considering what could have happened – 40.000 people were sitting inside the stadium at the time of the explosion.

At first, the blast was believed to have been an accident, but the police suspect this was not the case. Crude bombs are thought to have been used.According to the Police Commissioner, the explosive material used was probably placed in an unusual location, between a wall and a poster on it.

Police have started searching around the cricket venue.

The game, taking place at the very well secured M Chinnaswamy stadium, was meant to start at 4:00 PM, but had to be delayed. For security reason, the players went back to the dressing rooms for 10 minutes. After that, they returned to their warming-up moves, just as scheduled.

The game is very important for Bangalore, as it is their chance to finish in a last-four position. Mumbai, on the other hand, are already through to the semifinals.
