Catalonia: No more bullfighting
The Catalonia Parliament has decided to ban bullfighting in the region.
What animal protectionists may call a normal measure won’t affect things too much, though.
The only bullfighting ring in the region is in Barcelona and around 15 bullfights take place there in a year, with limited interest from the public. Still, the measure could have a symbolic effect. The region is the first one in mainland Spain to impose such a ban.
The number of bullfights that take place in Spain is around 1000 yearly.
Even if some say that the measure is against Spanish tradition, a lot of people consider bullfighting an outdated thing.
There are also people that say Catalonia just wants to get as far as possible from Spanish traditions as it possibly can.
