Celebrate Earth Day 2010 your way!

April 22nd is Earth Day, a very important celebration for environmentalists around the world. Even Google is celebrating it, by showing a custom Earth Day green logo on their front page.

This is a day when everybody comes together and celebrates our planet and everything it offers to us. This holiday’s origins are 40 years ago, in 1970, when US Senator Gaylord Nelson founded it. It started as an environmental teach-in and became a celebration of everything related to nature. Some say it wasn’t a coincidence that the day is the same as Communist leader Vladimir Lenin’s birthday. The FBI even investigated the Earth Day events in 1970.

What would be the best day to spend and show that you love your planet? This year, everybody goes out to the cinema to see the new Disney Nature movie, called Oceans.

You could also donate money to a nature-related cause, like saving the rainforest. Websites have been set up that will allow you to do so.

You could embrace green technologies, like mobile phones that use solar batteries, to save some energy. You could also try to recycle all the useless paper in your house, as well as all the plastic bottles you may have lying around.

Planting a tree would also be a great idea, as would be going to work on your bicycle or on foot, at least today.

Have a happy Earth Day!
