Divine creation denied by Stephen Hawking
Many have tried to answer the Ultimate Question – you know, the one about Life, Universe and Everything – and many of them know the answer is 42 (at least according to the legendary British author Douglas Addams). Some say the universe was created by an almighty, all-knowing creature, often referred to as God (or another name, meaning approximately the same thing). But Stephen Hawking, the world-famous British physicist, cosmologist does not think so.
Professor Hawking says in his book “The Grand Design” that there is indeed an invisible force that is responsible for existence as a whole, but it is not the divinity, but gravity. The universe just came to existence spontaneously.
His explanation for the existence of the Life, the Universe and Everything is the “M-Theory” involving 11 dimensions, vibrating strings, particles, membranes and lots of shapes that are really difficult to picture, as they have more dimensions us humans can observe.
Newton believed that our planet is designed uniquely and perfectly for human life, but the discovery of the exoplanets has shaken this idea – any intelligent life form that evolves under certain conditions will find those perfect for itself. Hawking even goes one step further: he says that among the infinite number of universes there must be another one just like our own, and there, just like here, something must come to existence, and there is no need for God in order to explain it.
Professor Hawking’s book “The Grand Design” will be published of September 9.
PS: I am curious about the Vatican’s reaction to this idea…
