Elena Kagan nomination backed by Senate Panel
Elena Kagan’s nomination to the full Senate for consideration has been voted 13 to 6 by the Senate Judiciary Committee.
Now Elena Kagan can hope to become a Supreme Court justice and she could be confirmed in early August.
South Carolina Senator Lindsey Graham was the only Republican to support Elena Kagan.
Carte Goodwin has been sworn today to replace Robert Byrd, who passed away, so the Democrats have control of the Senate at the current moment, 59-41. This is why Elena Kagan can be confident that she will be confirmed and will become the 112th justice in the history of the country.
The Democrats say that they are backing up Kagan because of her excellent professional credentials, including being Dean of Harvard Law School.
