First Day of Fall and First Day of Virtual School
It’s September 1st and although this isn’t the first day of fall, it is however the first day of virtual school in Massachusetts.
The state’s first online exclusive public school has been open. Students will be able to stay at home and log on their computers to check the curriculum and the books they need to read. No teachers, no annoying class mates. This is The Massachusetts Virtual Academy, the first online-only school that opened up in Greenfield on Thursday.
The news futuristic school serves students from kindergarten through high school. The classes are online, the students are guided by a learning coach that makes sure everyone completes their assignments. This is a very good school for people who have jobs and don’t have the time to go to a public school but spend much time online.
There are already 200 students registered in the last few days, the limit is 500. Students will be able to slow down and practice more on issues that are too hard to understand and they will also have to pass the statewide assessment test, known as the MCAS.
The first virtual schools have opened up almost 10 years ago, there are almost 70.000 students in virtual private schools in 27 states.
On the other hand, the first day of Fall will be in September 22 for those who live in the Northern Hemisphere (United States, Canada and most of Europe) and will be on March 20th for those who live in the southern hemisphere (parts of South America, parts of Africa, Australia, and Antarctica).
As for the hour change, the Daylight Saving Time begins on the second Sunday of March and ends on the first Sunday of November. On March 14, 2010, at 2:00 a.m. – the clocks were set ahead one hour and on Sunday, November 7, 2010, at 2:00 a.m. – you set the clocks back an hour. (Fall back)
