G8/G20 summits security map: Canada has increased security operations
Canada has increased security operations as leaders of rich and developing nations will attend the G8 and G20 summits that will take place between 24-27 June.
Leaders from Germany, Italy, France, United Kingdom, United States, Russia and Canada will meet at Deerhurst Resort, 133 miles from Toronto. The security operations include closing the resort to the public, the local roads will be restricted nearby Peninsula Lake and the airspace is going to be also restricted.
Around the Metro Toronto Convention Centre area people can see a ring of steel all because the G20 summit will be held at the Metro Toronto Convention Centre. The ring includes a 10 ft and 2.2 mile concrete and metal fence and the security measures are high. The CN tower will also be closed.
There are military forces and regional and city police forces, all to make sure the leaders of the most rich and developing countries are safe.
The cost of the security operations is $1.1bn, so it ain’t cheap to host a summit. The chief organizer of the G8/G20 told the media that the $1.9-million media pavilion (called Experience Canada) will bring more attention to Canada and will be a huge positive marketing for Canada. The huge 20,000-square-foot pavilion has a Muskoka portion for journalists who may not have the chance to see the country side of Canada. The Muskoka features an artificial lake, a central bridge area, canoes and a huge flat-screen television.
The G8/G20 summit is an event of high importance in the world. More than 3,500 journalists have applied for accreditations to the summit.
