Gordon Brown resigns as UK Prime Minister

gordon-brownAfter the UK election results which leads to a hung Parliament, Gordon Brown was the only one who could have formed an administration. But that’s not going to happen since the politician said he would step down in September if it were to agree to a Labour – Liberal Democrats coalition.

The successor as party leader is set to be chosen as soon as possible but no sooner than July 2010.

The resignation of Mr. Brown could open the path for a conservative leader in 10 Downing Street.

In Britain, if a Prime Minister is to resign, he/she must submit his resignation in person to Queen Elisabeth, obviously at Buckingham Palace. Mr. Brown was prepared and has asked the Queen to meet him at the palace.

“I have informed the queen’s private secretary that it’s my intention to tender my resignation to the queen,” Gordon Brown told reporters in a statement to the press before going to meet the Queen.

Also, to prove more his truth about resigning, baggage was being taken out of Mr. Brown’s official residence.

What has lead to Gordon Brown‘s resignation, you may ask yourself. Well, it seems that despite the efforts to form a coalition government (formed between Labour and Liberal Democrats), the coalition really wasn’t going to last, there were too many non understandings between the two parties.

So most likely the Conservatives will make a coalition with the Liberal Democrats.
