Helen Thomas retires!
A longtime Washington journalist Helen Thomas announced on Monday she is going to retire. The 89-year-old press lady was the dean of the White House press corps. Helen Thomas is well known for her outspoken nature, for her direct questions and objective articles.
Thomas’s retirement comes after a recent video showing the White House dean saying Jews should “get the hell out of Palestine” and suggested they should come to U.S, Germany or… Poland! The video sparked rumors over the Internet and started a huge controversy in the Israel and Palestinians difficult situation so soon the White House’s press secretary Robert Gibbs called her remarks as offensive and reprehensible. Thomas’s anti-Semitic remarks about Israel were uncalled for and irresponsible.
Although Helen Thomas blamed only herself for the unfortunate video, saying her remarks do not reflect the opinion of most of the people and not the one of the administration, the general public did not forgive her especially not after the White House Correspondents Association denounced her and considered to boot Thomas from her customary front-row centered seat at the White House press room.
The reason why Helen Thomas has so many privileges is that she has had a long time serving the White House presidency as a journalist, including John F. Kennedy‘s short mandate.
