HP will launch its own tablets next year
During a conference call which was made to report the company’s earnings for the last period, Hewlett Packard (HP) has confirmed the coming of two new products: a tablet with the WebOS operating system on it that will be launched at the beginning of next year and a Windows 7 tablet that is going to hit the market in the near future.
WebOS was the obvious choice over Android for Hewlett Packard, as it is their “inhouse” operating system: HP has acquired Palm, the developer of WebOS, back in April. According to rumors, HP has applied for the “PalmPad” trademark – this could be the perfect name for a tablet PC with WebOS on it.
The launch of a Windows tablet was not a question. The Slate, HP’s own touchscreen portable computer, is said to be built around a 1.6 gigahertz Intel Atom processor. The Windows version of Slate is the talk of the net for some time now – Microsoft has demonstrated HP’s Windows based tablet at the CES in January, and its price has leaked out on the net in April.
During the conference call, HP has reported its revenues and its market share: the company has net earnings of $1.8 billion and an increase of its market share on the PC, the notebook and the printers division.
