Hurricane Earl path: It could reach Coastal New England

Hurricane Earl is getting stronger and, if it follows its projected path, it could reach coastal New England by this weekend.

The National Hurricane Center says that Earl could become a Category 3 hurricane today.

Hurricane Earl had winds close to 175 kilometers an hour on Monday, which is close to major hurricane status. The hurricane Earl track could swipe the US East Coast in the days that will follow.

The hurricane has not threatened the gulf of Mexico in its current path and it is forecast to go past the coast of Cape Hatteras. Still, that forecast could change.

The hurricane passed through the Leeward Islands, St. Kitts and Antigua, but no major damage has been recorded, except for some flooding in a few areas.

The hurricane center has said that Earl would pass through the Virgin Islands and could go as far as Puerto Rico.
