The American tops Labor Day weekend box officeAlthough the Friday box office was dominated by Machete, the action flick direct by Robert Rodriguez, the big winner of the Labor Day weekend is The American, the latest assassin-thriller directed by Anton Corbjin.

The American, starring George Clooney, has gathered a little under $13 million since Friday, so its gross income since its debut on Wednesday totals around $16 million.

The top 5 grossing movies in the box office are the following:

- The American – $13 million (estimated)
- Takers – $11.5 million (estimated)
- Machete – $11.3 million (estimated)
- The Last Exorcism – $7.5 million (estimated)
- Going the Distance – $6.8 million (estimated)

The American tells the story of Jack, a master assassin. He is a real craftsman, but he is not without flaws: when one of his jobs end rough in Sweden, he vows that the next one will be his last.

The aforementioned last job takes Jack to a small town in Italy. He blends in, makes friends and even has an affair with a local beauty – he starts to feel like he is tempting fate. The mysterious woman who hired him seems more than she seems and he feels like somebody is watching him from the shadows. As usual, the result is a cinematic showdown on the streets of an Italian small town.

The movie has suspense, romance, intrigue and passion. It’s worth a try.
