More Americans Say Barack Obama is Muslim!

This is one of the craziest, yet wrongful rumors that spread among American citizens: Barack Obama is a Muslim!

And this is not going to do any good to Obama’s latest drop in the polls. According to two new US opinion polls out Thursday (Pew and Time.com), almost one in five Americans think Barack Obama, the first Black president of the United States, is a Muslim and 43% of the respondents said they weren’t sure what the president’s religion is.

Why do people think such rumors? Because Mr. Obama showed his support in building a Muslim center and a mosque a few blocks from the Ground Zero. Although the mosque would not be visible from the Ground Zero and would not be too close to it, there are strong voices that oppose this project and Obama’s support in this Near Ground Zero mosque isn’t helping his political career.

Also, according to one of the polls published in Time Magazine, about 30% of Americans think that Islam followers should be barred for becoming a president or serving on the US Supreme Court. The same poll revealed that 24% of the people who responded the poll think that Obama is a Muslim, although the President has spoken many times about his faith (the Obama family attends a Christian church)

If Obama continues to show a lot of support in the near ground zero mosque, than this might be his weakest point and he might not have another chance to the White House.

The survey from Pew Research Centre ad an error margin of plus or minus 2.5 percentage points.
