Netherlands beat Japan 1-0, First to advance in KO phase
Wesley Sneijder scored the only goal in yesterday`s match and Netherlands won against Japan 1-0. The victory extends the Dutch record of never losing to an Asian team.
The Dutch victory, combined with Denmark`s 2-1 victory against Cameroon, makes the Netherlands the first team to advance to the knockout phase of the World Cup 2010 in South Africa.
Netherlands has a very good defense, 0 goals received. They played a compact 4-2-3-1 with Van Bommel and De Jong as defensive midfielders. It`s known that the Dutch team usually play a classic 4-3-3, they was nicknamed Clockwork Orange for precision passing.
In their first World Cup match the Netherlands won against Denmark 2-0, with Daniel Agger and Dirk Kuyt goals.
