New arrests in Time Square bomb case

FBI-logoNew leads in Time Square car bomb case took FBI agents in searching locations outside Boston, on Long Island, N.Y and in New Jersey, chasing the source of the money used to carry out the car bombing attempt earlier this month.

Four people were taken into FBI custody, all of them on suspicion of immigration violations. Two of them were caught as a result of raids of a home and a gas station in Watertown, Mass. The Long Island raid netted two more people though local authorities warned that the two people arrested have no apparent connection to the suspect in the failed car bomb, Faisal Shahzad.

Also search warrants were executed at a printing shop in Camden, N.J., and to a private residence near Cherry Hill.

According to FBI spokeswoman Gail Marcinkiewicz cited by AFP, authorities confirmed that there were several search warrants were executed in the northeast to locations connected with the Times Square bombing investigation.

No FBI nor Justice Department official mentioned where the raids were carried out but the locations were reported in the local media.

Faisal Shahzad, the Pakistani-American prime suspect in the Time Square failed car bomb, is in custody. He was hauled off a place last week, just minutes before taking off to Dubai. The allegations suggest that he had constructed the crude bomb which was discovered in a parked car in Times Square on May 1st after the police was notified that smoke was coming out from the car.

Fortunately, Faisal Shahzad has been cooperating with the authorities.
