Microsoft: No More Microsoft Kin
Microsoft‘s “social phones”, the Kin One and the Kin Two, will not be produced anymore. The company has confirmed that it will cease production of the two smartphone models due to poor sales performances.
The two Kin models were entry-level handsets with improved social media skills. The Kin One and the Kin Two were launched just weeks ago in the United States, and their launch in Europe was planned later this year (in fall). It seems that this launch will not take place anymore…
Microsoft will, instead of Kin, focus on the latest mobile operating system developed by the company, Windows Phone 7. Kin developers will be folded in Microsoft’s main mobile development team.
Microsoft’s statement about the Kin’s cease of production says: “We have made this decision to focus exclusively on Windows Phone 7 and we will not ship Kin in Europe this autumn as planned. Additionally we are integrating our Kin team with the Windows Phone 7 team, incorporating valuable ideas and technologies from Kin in to future Windows Phone releases.”
Microsoft Kin was received with controversy – specialists liked the idea of bringing social media closer to the users by offering lower-priced handsets with these capabilities, but the execution is said to have been lamentably bad, as though no one would have tested the new terminal in the real world.
The remaining Kin headsets will be sold through Verizon.
R2D2 here,
MS says “valuable lessons learned.” I laughed so hard a resistor blew out of my nose. What is MS thinking? Oh, they aren’t. MS Kin was a F A I L from the word go. Just one look at that device said “Run” to earthlings who know my Droids. Wise up MS! My Droids are being made by the millions on Tatooine. The Force is with us!
Droids rule. You heard it here from R2D2
