Shana Tova! Tonight is Rosh Hashanah, the Jewish New Year!

Rosh-HashanahRosh Hashanah is observed on the first day of Tishrei, the seventh month in the Hebrew calendar, and it is the first of the High Holidays or Yamim Noraim or Asseret Yemei Teshuva. It’s a holiday for reflection, resolutions and repentance that conclude with Yom Kippur.

Tonight is the night of Rosh Hashanah, the holiday of the Jewish New Year. It is supposed to give time to reflect and find resolutions on the head of the year. Of course many politicians and important people in the world already sent their warmest wishes to all the Jewish people celebrating Rosh Hashanah. Perhaps they should have sent honey cake instead, the traditional dessert that symbolizes a sweet new year.

Rosh Hashanah rushed the Israeli people to the the marketplaces to get all the right ingredients for the meals of new year’s festival which begins at sundown. This year Rosh Hashanah also marks the end of the Muslim holy month of Ramadan.

U.S. President Barack Obama released a video giving his best wishes for the new year and emphasized the effort and the struggle of a two-state solution between Israeli and Palestinian leaders next week in Egypt. Mr. Obama hopes for a deal in the next year while the Israeli seem to be more skeptical about this after many, many years of failed efforts, according to Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. The Israelis Prime Minister said there are many obstacles and many reasons for skepticism and that although the talks are important in an attempt to reach peace, there are no certainty of success.

Shana Tova to all of you!
