Steve MacNair’s Mother to be Visited by Vince Young
Tennessee Titans‘ late quarterback Steve McNair, nicknamed Air McNair, has passed away on 4th of July last year. The cause of his passing was the act of his girlfriend Sahel Kazemi: after firing a weapon on the quarterback, she turned the gun against herself. They were both found in McNair’s condo in Nashville.
The current quarterback of the Titans, Vince Young, is planning to visit McNair’s mother in Mississippi. He is planning to spend the weekend there, remembering his late mentor on the anniversary of his passage to the endless football field in the sky. “It’s the one-year anniversary for Steve not being here. It’s gonna be a sad moment, but we’re gonna eat some barbecue and celebrate the life of Steve McNair, the things he put in my life and his family’s life,” Young said.
Steve McNair was born in Mount Olive, Mississippi. He played football, baseball and basketball at Mount Olive High School, making it to the State Championship. He intercepted fifteen passes in 1990 alone. He was drafted by the Seattle Mariners in 1991.
He started his professional NFL career in 1995 at the Houston Oilers but he did not see much action during his 7-year contract. In 1998, at the Tennessee Oilers (the team that later changed its name to Titans) McNair set career passing highs with 492 attempts, 289 completions, 3,228 yards and 15 touchdowns.
Titans fans will surely regret McNair’s passing during the 4th of July festivities this year.

I think its a good sign for the Titans to see Vince Young do this. He could be out partying and getting into trouble on the 4th of July but instead he is going to spend the weekend doing something meaningful for someone else. Stories like this rarely make headlines. Young spent his pro bowl week this past year hanging out with Steve McNair’s kids. He also went back to college a couple years ago to finish his degree. He also pays for his receivers to go on vacation. These types of things should be reported more often rather than whatever news can make somone else look bad.
