The American George Clooney Tops Machete at the Boxoffice
George Clooney is back and he’s taking the top of the Box office with his new blockbuster “The American“. The Focus Features film topped the top 10 box office for the long Labor Day weekend with $16.4 million debut, making $19.5 million since opening on Wednesday.
On the other hand “Machete” didn’t succeed in taking The American’s No. 1 spot, a R-rated and low-budget movie with George Clooney. You can blame it on Clooney’s charm, on his adventurous love life with gorgeous Elisabetta Canalis or you can say Robert Rodriguez doesn’t have what it’s got to beat George Clooney in the box office.
“Machete“, a 20th Century Fox movie battled with John Luessenhop’s heist movie “Takers” (Sony) for the second place this weekend. In the end it was “Machete” that made it on the second place with $14 million while “Takers” got a rough $13.5 million ending on the third place and making a total of $40 million in 10 days of screenings. Keep in mind that on Tuesday, when the final data are being published, the places might change.
Drew Barrymore‘s latest flick “Going the Distance” opened up over the weekend making only $8.6 million in this long Labor Day Weekend.

Bravo George Clooney on your box office hit of “The American.” I had complete faith in you, as always and I think all the negative comments about your personal life from all the critics out there, had a reverse effect on things. It literally sent folks out in droves to see your movie this weekend. I know your next movie will be hit and every other one to follow in rapid succession. I simply cannot wait to work with you in the near future. Be good and much love to you!!!!
George, you looked amazing in “The American.” Sexy as ever….such a silver fox. Your body was super for a 49 year old man. You look so much like your dad these days. You definitely came from good stock. Be happy. Stay sweet.
