Tony Awards 2010: Winners list!

The 64th Tony Awards 2010 happened in Radio City Music Hall on Sunday night. The musical “Memphis“ has won the Tony Award for best musical. Memphis was written by David Bryan (Bon Jovi keyboardist) and Joe DiPietro and tells the story of Memphis deejay Dewey Phillips who was one of the first white disc jockeys to play black music during the fifties.
The musical debuted on Broadway in 2002 and 2008 and was performed at the La Jolla Playhouse in San Diego, California and landed on Broadway in October.
Although “La Cage aux Folles“, “Fences” and “Fela!” dominated this year’s Tony Awards nomination list, Memphis got the Best Book of a Musical gong, honoring Joe DiPietro’s work, Best Original Score kudo, Best Orchestrations prize, closing the ceremony with another statue, the Best Musical Award.
