US News And World Report College Rankings 2011 – Harvard is on top!
The 27th annual US News and World Report Best Colleges rankings has been releases earlier today. The monthly news magazine is published in Washington and since November 2008 the magazine has switched from the biweekly format to a monthly magazine.
Although US News magazine focuses on politics, economy, health and education, it has been very famous for its ranking system and annual reports on colleges, graduate schools and high schools from the U.S.
That’s why every year the magazine is very popular among teens and young who are searching for the best school for their higher education. The US News examines more than 1400 accredited schools and the results are published in the annual US News and World Report Best Colleges rankings. For the 2011 edition there were more schools ranked than in the last years.
There are main categories, such as Best Colleges are National Universities, National Liberal Arts Colleges, Regional Universities and Regional Colleges. Regional Universities category was Universities-Masters and Regional Colleges was Baccalaureate Colleges. Liberal Arts Colleges became National Liberal Arts Colleges, so it should be less confusing when searching for the best school for you.
How are the rankings established? US News collects the data from an annual survey every school must apply to. Also, the magazine considers opinion surveys from administrators of that college/faculty/high schools. The methods have changed during the years.
So what are the best colleges in the US in 2011?
When it comes to National Universities category, Harvard leads the way with a score of 100! On the second and third position, with a score of 99 and 98 there are Princeton University and Yale University. Also, Yale and UCLA are offering full range of undergraduate majors, master’s and doctoral degree.
As for the fees, Harvard costs in matters of tuition and fees: $38,416. Princeton will cost you about $36,640. Yale is a little more expensive than Princeton, the tuition and fees cost about $38,300.
Not only the reputation of these colleges were considered, but also SAT scores, selectivity graduation, retention rates, alumni giving and peer reputation.
In the National Liberal Arts Rankings category, Williams College won the top of the list with a score of 100. The fees at this college are about $41,434. Amherst College and Swarthmore College are close behind Williams College.
The best Regional Universities in North are Villanova University with tuition and fees of about $39,665, Providence College with $34,435 and Loyola University Maryland with tuition and fees of $39,350.
The best South Regional Universities are Rollins College with fees of $37,640, Elon University with fees of $26,827 and James Madison University with fees of $7,860 if you’re an In-state student or $20,624 if you’re an Out-of-state student.
