USA vs. Algeria 1-0: USA qualify as group leaders

USA beat Algeria 1-0 and they qualify as group winners from group C.

It is a fabulous performance for the United States soccer team, as they were the best in the group.

They were also probably the team that was most struck by bad luck. After the goal they had cancelled against Slovenia, they had another goal disallowed today.

It wouldn’t have been fair for Bob Bradley’s boys to go home, after they were certainly the best team in the group, the most consistent one, and only bad luck and erroneous referee decisions were the reasons why they had to go through such emotions.

Still, all is well when it ends well and, after a game in which they had a lot of opportunities, and either the post was in the way or the Algerian goalkeeper, Landon Donovan scored in the 91st minute, sending the USA team into the knockout stage.
