Was the T-Rex a cannibal?
The Tyrannosaurus Rex. Everybody imagines it as being a majestic animal, a huge lizard that was the fearsome top predator of the Jurassic. Recent studies show, though, that it was not only dangerous for the herbivores and the carnivores of its era, but for its own species as well.
Paleontologists of the Yale University have studied lots of Tyrannosaurus Rex fossils, and found lots of them to bare… T-Rex bite marks. This seems to prove another unpleasant fact about the top predator of the era: it was a cannibal. The bite marks were more frequent than expected.
The marks were examined by the experts and the conclusion was that they indeed are the results of feeding, although there is no telling if they were left while hunting or scavenging. The bite marks might have been left on the bones of a fallen T-Rex in time of famine, or they might be the result of a fight between two of these monsters – there’s just no telling. But they are there, so it’s a fact that the T-Rex consumed its brother’s flesh.
